Marie de la Roussière

Biographical information/Professional background

Graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d’Art Olivier de Serres and after an apprenticeship with the Master of Art Isabelle Emmerique, Marie de La Roussière, in 2010, created her workshop in the Paris region.

This course has allowed her to develop her own artistic language and to propose a contemporary vision of the lacquering profession.

Memory of the body, repetition of the gesture, the job of lacquerer requires rigour and patience. Each work is entirely handmade, from the preparation of primers based on rabbit skin glue, to the polishing.

Inherited from the work of the Martin brothers, dating back to the 18th century, the practice of European oil varnishes is a strong tradition that has been firmly established in France for over 300 years. Mixture of varnish, powdered pigments and turpentine, this technique borrows from the Asian tradition, gestures and manufacturing method.

Member of the LAC association (Laqueurs associés pour la création) and the « Ateliers des Maîtres d’Art et leurs Elèves », Marie de La Roussière has been exhibiting with them for several years at prestigious exhibitions (Salon International du Patrimoine, Révélations).

The French Arts Factory presents the artworks of the artist on the occasion of the exhibition ” Lumières intérieures” in September 2019.
