Biographical information/Professional background

Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on February 26, 1973, Chichi Reyes received his artistic training at the Altos de Chavon School of Design. He also studied architecture at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo and advertising at the Universidad Católica de Santo Domingo.

With a significant pictorial career and a very personal style that captures the imagination, Reyes is one of the most recognized contemporary artists of his generation. His works are exhibited in Europe, the United States and the Caribbean.

After a figurative, light and colorful creative process, Chichí turned to Abstraction. In 2011, he moved to Paris and Brussels, where he still lives and works.

His works have been exhibited at the Biennial of Visual Arts in Santo Domingo, the Havana Biennial; the European Parliament in Brussels, as well as at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris in 2015, where he was chosen along with prestigious contemporary Cuban and African artists to pay tribute to the 100 years of the abolition of slavery, the relationship between the Slave Route and contemporary art.

On May 2017, Chichí Reyes was honored with the highest honor awarded by the French Senate, the « médaille du mérite ».

The French Arts Factory presents the works of the artist on the occasion of the exhibition “Mirages” organized by the OT of the Dominican Republic in September 2017.
